Roads

Roads
Reno’s roads are the lifelines of our community—but if we disincorporate, we lose control over how and when they are maintained. Parker County has already stated they do not have the manpower or resources to address Reno’s roads anytime soon. That could mean years of waiting for repairs and a future where Reno’s streets are just 60 indistinguishable miles in the county’s massive 2,487-mile system.
Road Facts to Consider
County Does Not Have the Manpower:
Parker County 0fficials have stated they do not have the current manpower or resources to immediately begin addressing Reno’s roads.
In a September 5, 2024 Town Hall, George Conley, County Commissioner Precinct 1, stated that the county does not have the manpower currently to manage the 60 extra miles of Reno roads. He stated it would likely be 2 or more years before they can address the road issues significantly.[ 1 ]
Prevalent Practice Repairs:
Reno has recently been requiring most new roads to be longer-lasting concrete roads (e.g. Rocky Top sub-division).
While Parker County road construction aims for an asphalt surface, the regulations prioritize adhering to ‘prevalent practice in this locality,’ which might not always align with the highest standards or the specific needs of Reno’s roads. Reno residents have the right to understand what ‘prevalent practice’ means for the quality and longevity of their roads. [2]
Judge Pat Dean said to be prepared for dirt and gravel roads. [3]
Loss of Local Input on Road Projects:
Reno currently decides which roads get repaved and when.
Under county control, residents lose the ability to prioritize road repairs in their own neighborhoods. We become just another indistinguishable 60 miles of road in the vast 2,487 miles of roads Parker County must manage.
Debt payoff:
A previous administration saddled us with debt including a 1 million dollar loan.
This loan will be paid off in September 2026– freeing up money that can be used for road repairs.
